The Big Idea

Shady Trace

Creative Rationale

I chose the band Shady Trace because they are a local band started in Harrisonburg, VA. I am a fan of their music style and wanted to focus on a smaller, lesser known band. My main reasoning was that they don't have much branding for their band so I could play around with a lot of different options.

Sketches

Here I started with some sketches just to explore ideas I had. I wanted to focus on organic shapes and make the band members the main focus.

Roughs

For my roughs I created 2 sets of posters for 4 total. I wanted to continue my exploration of organic shapes, as well as explore a neutral color palette that they have seemed to use on their Instagram

Finals

My finals were an integration of all 4 rough ideas I had. I simplified the line work I had in the roughs and changed the photo I used for the 4 person as it was sharp and jarring. I also added information for their next show as to add some text and break up the poster a bit.

The last photo is my printed poster currently hanging on my wall :)

  • Understanding the difference between raster and vector.

  • How to create a cohesive set of posters while not just recreating the same poster in a different version
